Working with data, and making sense of those vast quantities of data, is of course what makes databases so powerful and so useful. The ability to quickly and easily find the data you want, and report that data in a meaningful and useful way, is a critical function of any successful database program. The new Access 2007 program contains a number of new features designed to make working with, manipulating, changing and reporting on data easier and faster than ever. Among the innovations included in Access 2007 are:
The ability to easily and quickly filter and sort data is a critical part of any database program, and the new Access 2007 features improved and more user friendly methods for filtering and sorting data. The program features different filter options for different kinds of records, including text data, numeric data and data in date format. For example, Access 2007 allows users to filter out date data for yesterday, tomorrow, last week, next month, etc., as well as the ability to filter for a specific date. In addition, the filtering rules are consistent between Microsoft Excel 2007 and Microsoft Access 2007, eliminating the need for users to learn two different sets of rules.
Access 2007 also marks the introduction of multi-value fields and the support of complex data types. Users are now free to create columns which can accept more than one value in a cell. For example, users assigning a single task to two individuals will be able to enter both names into a single cell.
This support for complex data types and multi-value fields is also compatible with Windows SharePoint Services, allowing for easy sharing and transfer of data between colleagues. The new Access 2007 also allows users to easily attach documents and files to the database, allowing those documents to hold more helpful and useful information than ever before. The program allows for the attachment of multiple files, including photo files, documents, spreadsheets and more, into a single data store. In addition, Access 2007 automatically compresses files which are not in compressed format, helping to save disk space.
In addition to making sharing and creating data easier, Microsoft Access 2007 also makes it easier to design forms. The new intuitive and interactive forms design features a true WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface. The new forms design feature also allows users to quickly and easily modify the form layout in real time, and instantly see the results of each change. This innovative design allows users to build forms quickly and easily, and to ensure that the design meets their needs and those of their users.
Reports are an important part of any database program, and Access 2007 provides new ways to gather complex information and display it in an easy to understand and easy to use format.
With interactive report design mode editing, it is easier than ever to see how the data will appear on the printed report, and to see the effects of any format or design changes. The new interface allows users to quickly and easily manipulate the layout of the report, allowing for faster report creation and more useful reports.
Microsoft Access is an application used to create small and midsize computer desktop databases for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. It can also be used as a database server for a web-based application.
